Adventure
Bosnia and Herzegovina's countryside and mountain areas with ample forests, rivers
and lakes offer endless and extraordinary opportunities for nature lovers and adventure
seekers. Along with skiing throughout the country in winter, outdoor activities
include hiking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking and more extreme activities
like alpine climbing and paragliding.
There are several tour companies and private guides offering daily trips or longer
tours. Accommodation is usually in mountain huts, motels or with locals.
Hiking and mountaineering around remote villages and through rich forests and rugged
alpine peaks are very popular. Visitors encounter the traditional lifestyle of places
such as Lukomir, and rich flora and fauna of Perucica, one of the last remaining
primeval forests in Europe. Paragliding is possible from the Visocica Peak over
the Rakitnica canyon, and the highland plateau of Prenj, also known as the Himalaya
of Herzegovina, is exceptionally suited for mountain biking.
Rafting on Una and Neretva is a huge attraction. The "Una regatta" on the Una river
in the north-west region of Bosnia attracts more than 500 participants every year
from neighbouring countries but also from the rest of Europe and the States.
Neretva is the emerald gem of Herzegovina, flowing over 60 miles from its source
into the Adriatic Sea.
In the upper canyon, you'll find some of the most beautiful rafting in Europe.
Expect deep canyon walls, endemic flora and fauna, and a wild and pristine ambiance
that only Neretva can provide.
Fly fishing on springs and rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a great experience
for all passionate fans of this sport. There are several beautiful fly fishing rivers
in the north-west region of the country - Pliva, Una, Unac, Klokot, Ribnik and Sanica.
Pliva is one of the most beautiful fly fishing rivers in Europe. All rivers are
very rich in wild brown and rainbow trout and trophy grayling.
